Poppies and the bees....

>> Friday, April 17, 2009

Greetings! I am so excited about a lot of things right now! First off is this great tool from photobucket that lets me post a little slideshow here! I am sure others know about this, but I am thrilled to be using it.

Today's photoshoot was dedicated to our little honeybee--- some of you may know that the honey bee is in danger right now. They are suffering from Colony Collapse Disorder. The reasons are not really known, but without our little bee friends, nature cant function quite the same.

Poppies are also very close to my heart -- Papa Kupfer (my moms dad) always had poppies in his yard and would send some home with me each time I visited. They remind me of him and they are very happy flowers.

Enjoy this photoshoot - from my heart to yours. If you want a particular picture, let me know:) <3

just thinking

>> Wednesday, April 15, 2009

its midnight.

i should go to sleep.

i would rather not have to sleep.

i would like to thank my employment for reminding me today that I am destined for greater things. Truly. I am appreciative of the reminder that my stall zone manifested by my current employment in a position that is going nowhere needs to come to an end.

i would also like to thank my life fans. (we all have life fans and need life fans). Namely, my sister, parents, cousin, aunt and other friends. Fans make me feel special.

Indians and the Princess...

>> Thursday, April 9, 2009

Just last week, a coworker of mine mentioned to me "you're always doing fun things."

Hmmm.

I first just let that comment roll away, but then I caught it and thought about it.

Yep, I guess I am.

I think that comes from two things -
1. My natural quirky personna
2. The "get up early and drive real fast" function gene in my being.
For those of you unfamiliar with the UEDRF (short for Up Early Drive Real Fast) gene, let me explain- It may simply be an undiscovered genetic part of you too!

My mother is known near and abroad for her ability to plan and pack. All growing up, we had many family trips that were packed full of museums and hisorical sights (for my father, the history teacher) and sightseeing galore. So as not to miss any portion of the land and terrain we were visiting, my mother would rustle up us 4 children and corral us into the car at the weeeeeee hours of each day. Then we would go everywhere. We would see all kinds of interesting and fasinating places (mostly because my mom worked hard to research what was in the area.) Out loud we all complained about our "vacation" schedule. But, if we had to admit the truth, I think we all would state our enjoyment. (off the record only)

Between those two things I like to spend my days off and free time doing things. Fun things, interesting things, clever things, random things, educational things. I like it.

Most recently I went canoing with a friend down the American River. (thanks dad for the borrowage of red canoe. it worked swell). What made this trip a little uniqe was the text I recieved from my friend Scott. He texted me the following message the day before we were to launch. "Feel free to dress up like an Indian Chief if you'd like."

I think he was trying to be funny. He doesnt know me very well....

Below is our adventure....7 and 1/2 miles of the Indian princess and Huck Finn observing natives, wildlife and burning calories down the river.....

Light Bulbs

>> Thursday, April 2, 2009

For those that live close to me, the last few months have been an intense search for purpose and direction. Reading between the lines -- a new career.

Perhaps I am having a .33 % life crisis (I will be 29 in just a few short months), perhaps I am shifting my wieght around as a "mid single" or maybe I am just eternally restless. I am not quite sure.

In this time, I have grown fond of and had more appreciation for the great founder of the light bulb. Instead of being irritated at all the things that didnt create the end he was looking for, he simply chalked it up to research and education. I am striving to be a bit more like Edison. These are some of the things I have learned that "I didnt know before"

1. Working as a display coordinator isnt in my future. Unless I somehow miraculously become the favored child, change political views and/or make alliances with my sm, ssm, and dsm. (not likely)
2. I really love so-cal. I mean a lot. The job market is tough and cost of living much higher than nor cal.
3. I am not interested in being a lawyer.
4. Masters degrees entitle you to stating (on a professional level) the opinions and life experience you already have.
5. Most masters programs only admit applications in the fall. For the following year. No exception. No kidding. At least I could be real ahead the game if I I wanted to apply for 2010!
6. I like money. Money is functional. I am currently not making very much of it. (I think I knew this before).
7. Desk jobs = complete insanity
8. I like family advocacy work --- dont have the translation of a career path for that yet.
9. Networking is critical.
10. Being on stage is amazing. Performing my music is amazing. Going on a two city tour was beautifully fun! Finishing my cd is slow, but very exciting. living off the money i've made doing all that....not likely!

Tune in next time for more Shannons life lessons resulting from searching for her career path. Now its time for a siesta. A really LONG siesta....
